Best Get to Know Your Teacher Activity

Teaching is all about relationships!

In my 16 years of teaching, this is the one absolute fact I know to always be true. As teachers, we strive to make learning engaging and interactive for our students, but none of that will be fruitful if our students don’t want to learn from us.

A great way to start out your relationship with your new students is to introduce yourself through an engaging and interactive game. Letting your students get to know you as an individual creates a level of trust that will help build that strong relationship you need to help them succeed.

Let Them In

It’s my experience that not only do our students want to tell us everything about themselves, they want to know everything about us too!  My students love hearing silly stories about my life, especially my crazy kids.

A great way to start this is through a teacher true or false PowerPoint game.

It’s Okay to Look Silly

On my first slide, I show the kids what I looked like when I was their age.  Last year, I taught fifth grade and showed them my fifth grade picture, but it was a screen shot from my black and white year book.

They literally thought that maybe there weren’t colored photos when I was in the fifth grade.  That was humbling!  😊

To make it interactive, I have my students answer with sticky notes.  They write “true” on one sticky note and “false” on the other and hold up their answer.  It gets them moving their bodies and usually prevents shouting out. Check out my own teacher trivia game below for some inspiration!

Ten or so questions is usually a perfect amount. Everything from places you’ve traveled to, your pets, your family life, your hobbies & interests. Be sure to add real photos, maps, videos, and especially funny memes.

If you’d like a template for this game, comment below or email us at handemresources@gmail.com. We’d be happy to email you one!

If you make your own game, please tag us on Instagram h.and.em.resources or tiktok handemresources

I hope you have a fabulous school year!
