Tracking Absent Work

Absent Students Got You Down?

If your class is anything like mine this year, you have had an insane amount of missing students throughout the year. As I write this post, I currently have 7 students absent today, a Monday of all days! Tracking and keeping up with absent student work has always been a struggle for me, but this year it has just been unreal. That’s why I came up with a quick and easy solution to help me keep absent work organized and ready for when my students return.

Easy To Use.

This simple form takes only a few minutes to complete, but makes a world of difference when my students return and inevitably ask…”what did I miss?”  Occasionally, I write the assignments on these sheets myself and other times I ask a responsible student to help me by documenting the work that their classmate missed.

I purposefully print this sheet in a wild, bright color and keep a giant stack of them near my desk.  In the morning, when I notice a student is absent, I set one of the tracking forms on their desk.  Throughout the day, the form gets completed.  Once all of their work is jotted down, I paper clip or staple any corresponding pages to this tracking form.

MAKE LIFE EASIER!

I have seen a huge improvement in the amount of absent work that actually gets turned in after an absence. I’ve also noticed that I am way less frazzled keeping up with absent work in class. I always print this form on a bright color! They seem to get lost less often when they’re easy to spot.
